Some young Filipinos  in Austria are expected to attend this year’s World Youth Day celebrations with Pope Francis in Krakow, the childhood home of Saint Pope John Paul II who initiated the gathering in 1985.

“I guess all I really want is for the Lord to surprise me. I’m not expecting anything in particular but I just want to see Jesus there in Poland,” one of the youth participant said.

“I want to see the Lord through the eyes of each and everyone I meet, I want to feel his presence,” the young man continued.

“It will be an occasion not only for immediate preparations but also for strengthening the community spirit and the shared perspective in undertaking this pilgrimage,”  said.

Held every three years, World Youth Day is a weeklong festival to celebrate faith through songs, dances, prayers, and sharing of experiences. The Filipino Delegation is under the care of the Filipino Catholic Chaplaincy in Vienna.
